Dr. Kenneth and Millie Cooper, honorees
The “Father” and “First Lady” of AEROBICS, community philanthropists
Kenneth H. Cooper, MD, MPH has inspired millions to exercise for good health for more than 50 years and is the creator of the word “AEROBICS.” The author of 19 books, Dr. Cooper is recognized as the leader of the international physical fitness movement and is credited with motivating more people to exercise in pursuit of good health than any other individual in the world. He has founded numerous in-school programs to help children attain and maintain fitness and lectured about fitness in more than 50 countries.
During Dr. Cooper’s service in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force, he served as a flight surgeon and director of the Aerospace Medical Laboratory in San Antonio. In 1970, Dr. Cooper resigned from the military to explore the relationship between cardiovascular fitness and health and longevity. He founded Cooper Aerobics Center in Dallas where he serves as Chairman of six health and wellness companies and The Cooper Institute research and education nonprofit. Millie Cooper, coauthor of Aerobics for Women, has been a tireless promoter of fitness for children and adults. Together, the Coopers have had significant impact as volunteers and philanthropists.
